Eye Ointment

You have the choice of accepting or declining the application of erythromycin eye ointment to your newborn's eyes.

The eye ointment is applied to prevent a possible bacterial eye infections, which is commonly known as pink eye.  The most common cause of this infection is chlamydia being passed from the mother to the baby during its passage through the birth canal.
